World's most expensive truffle is on display in Portugal

The Guinness Book of World Records has certified the world's most expensive chocolate. Priced at 7,728 euros or $8,800, the diamond-shaped confection is covered in edible gold and has a filling of saffron threads, white truffle, vanilla from Madagascar and gold flakes. Plus to further justify the price, it comes in a box decorated with 5,500 Swarovski Crystals.

Portuguese chocolatier Daniel Gomes created it as part of a limited edition of 1,000 bonbons. The previous record was was held by Danish artisan chocolate-maker Fritz Knipschildt’s for his La Madeline au Truffe priced at $250 in 2017. So the previous record doesn't even come close to the new one but was still an extravagant amount to pay for one piece of chocolate. Looking for a fancy chocolate fix without the metallic aftertaste and more nutritional value than edible gold? Try our chocolate squares with pistachios and smoked Maldon salt.
